We can a run a 1 or 2 day glacier skills course and it can also be combined with other courses or guiding.

Move efficiently and safely

Ridge Climbing & Rope-Work

Cabaane d'Orny, Switzerland, Mountaineering course, Chamonix ski guide, haute route, chamonix climbing, Chamonix freeride, Chamonix mountain guides, Swiss mountaineering

Mountaineering skill is the art of mastering fluid, efficient movement over potentially dangerous terrain albeit relatively easy from a rock climbing point of view. This requires learning to be good on your feet as well as scrambling. Additionally using the rope and your gear in the right way for the terrain and reading the route. These are some of the hardest skills to master, but very satisfying once you find yourself covering a lot of terrain as safely as possible.

This course is largely done in the terrain as it’s a real case of “practice makes perfect” with these skills. Chamonix or the Valais region of Switzerland work well.

The course covers some of or all the following subjects depending on your experience and objectives:

  • Planning with available resources
  • Moving efficiently on moderate terrain
  • The right equipment for the right route
  • Knots
  • Roping up correctly for the terrain and adapting the rope length
  • Protecting in movement
  • Anchors
  • Lowering or abseiling
  • Reading the terrain
  • Recognising dangers and adapting tactics
  • Getting rescue and accident management
